Aikido is a Japanese sport. It is also a Japanese word, which is the combination of Ai (Love and harmonic), Ki (internal strength) and Do (way and pattern) that was established in 1920 by Sensei Morihei Ushiba. So we can think of Ushiba as the only teacher and founder of this style.Morihei Ushiba was born in December 14th, 1883 in Tanabe in Japan in a farmer family. He was a weak boy and his father wanted him to improve his soul and body. Because of this at first Morihei started swimming and Japanese wrestling called Sumo. In the age of eighteen he started epical sports like Jujitsu in Kiturio. After working hard in this field he could get the black belt. After that he continued his way by learning sword striking and stick beating. Because of his outstanding talent he could get the best skills. Morihei was a holy person and he always believed that people should respect each other and should never hit each other. At that time some of the epical sports in Japan were very harshness and this was in conflict with the thoughts of Morihei who was looking for a sport without harshness.

Finally in 1920 with some changes in Jujitsu and merging the techniques of sword (Ken), stick (Jo) and knife (Tanturi) he could create a beautiful sport witch was conform to the unity of nature (Aikido).

(So we can consider Aikido as a superior physical skill and sport that its aim is to harmonize one with the soul of nature and nurturing the soul of the human). After establishing this style, Morihei gathered some people in his living place and started teaching them by his own money. This was a great step in improving this sport. At last, after years of working hard he passed away in the age of 86. After Morihei his child and his students continued his way. Because of special respect for him they decided to forbid every beating in this sport and also they refused to manage serious matches. This is why every year techniques and practices of this sport is done safely and in such a way which we call it Kata. Opponents of this style should understand each other and should never try to defeat or beat each other.
